In this lesson, we will now identify the functions of each of the icons in the Messenger Mail Folder.
Let's go over to the Navigation toolbar. The Navigation toolbar contains all the icons needed to complete certain task in Messenger.
The first icon on the left is the "Get Message" icon. Clicking on the "Get Message" icon will retrieve all new messages.
When placing the mouse over each icon a brief explanation of the icons is provided for us. This is accompanied by a short cut on how to activate the icons without using the mouse.
Let's place the mouse over the "Get Message" icon. Notice the small yellow box that appears. It identifies the icon as Get Message and gives the Control T command. If we press the [Ctrl] key simultaneously with the letter T in our keyboard, it will send a command to retrieve all new messages.
Let's continue to the next icon. This is the "New Message" icon. This icon is useful to compose a new mail message. We will use this icon when we are ready to compose a new message.
The "Reply" icon is useful to reply to messages that have been sent.
The "Forward" icon is useful for forwarding messages that you've received to someone else.
The "File" icon is useful to copy selected messages to another folder.
The "Next" icon is useful for viewing each sent message. It is used as a scrolling function.
The "Print" icon is useful for making print copies of selected messages.
The "Security" icon is useful when working in a computer with multiple users. The security function is to secure information that is privileged to you.
The "Delete" icon is useful for deleting selected messages.
The "Stop" icon is useful to stop the transmission of a message.
Now we will explore the Location toolbar. This is the toolbar located below the Navigation toolbar. The Location toolbar indicates the folder that contains the messages you're currently reading.
Notice that we are currently in the Inbox folder. The arrow on the right of this box indicates that there are more folders to choose from. By clicking on the arrow a list of folder names will be provided.
On the far right side of the location bar, we are given information on how many messages you have in total as well as how many messages have not been read. The green arrow at the far right will open the message center. The message centers gives the list of the folders you have as well as the status for each one.
Now we will explore the status bar. The status bar indicates the subject of the message, who sent the message, the date the message was sent and the priority status of the message. Notice that the message for the first highlighted subject is located below the status bar. If you want to read the second message, we just simply click on the subject and the message will be displayed.
If we click on the "Hide" button, the little upside triangle located before the message, this will hide the message and only show the list of messages that are in the folder.
